Clothing Size Converters

International size converters can be useful for seeing what size you wear in another country, however it is important to remember size conversions are only approximates. Every clothing manufacturer and brand uses their own variations of “standard” sizing. While countries often have standards boards that suggest measurement ranges and size nomenclatures, apparel companies are not required to follow these recommendations . This leads to great variation in size definitions among brands, regardless of the country in which the clothing is made.

Clothing Size Converters for Direct Measurements

The greatest accuracy in conversion is found in sizes that are based on a specific measurement and just has to be converted from one unit of measure to another. For example, pants that are sized corresponding to a waist size in inches in the U.S. market can be easily converted to a waist size in centimeters for a European audience.

Standardized Clothing Size Converters

The following International size conversion tables can be used as a guideline for determining your size in various countries, but sizing will vary with style, brand and manufacturer.

  1. I have a maroon courderouy shirt marked M/M.
is that a men’s medium? It looks small- I thought it may be a junior girls?
Help! WHat size does M/M mean?

    1. Hi Nancy,

It is just a medium. (It could be junior medium as they don’t usually differentiate their sizes as juniors by the labelling – you’d only know by the brand.) Some clothing has labels in both English and French (especially when it is sold in US and Canada). So, in this case, one of the Ms stands for medium and the other stands for moyen (medium in french). A small would say S/P for small/petit and a large would say L/G for large/grand in the same system.

  2. I wear a 3X in woman’s tops and need to know what that converts too when looking at tops that are sized 16W-26W Both sizes are plus sizes.

    1. You may want to refer to the Gucci website there is a separate size chart for polos and knit shirts which is different than the sizes for dress shirts.
